Outbound Spam Filtering

What is it?
Our basic Spam Filtering Service only checks your incoming email. If you want the same protection applied to your outgoing mail you’ll want our Outbound Filtering Service.
Outbound Filtering can be used as a stand-alone product, but it is normally paired with our Inbound Spam Filtering as an add-on service.
How does it work?
All mail you send from your mail server passes through our Spam filters. The same checks and reviews that are performed on your incoming mail are also preformed on your outgoing mail.
Why do I need this?
If you have ever had your mail server blacklisted you’ll immediately recognize the value of Outbound Filtering. Typically what happens is that a user on your system downloads a virus from the web or has their email account hacked (usually due to a weak password). Once your system has been compromised it will start sending out thousands of spam messages. This will be noticed by one or more of the major RBLs (Realtime Blackhole Lists) and your mail server’s IP address will be added to their Blacklist. Once that happens you will have difficulty sending mail to any mail server that checks those blacklists, and almost everyone today does some level of blacklist checking.
Removing your IP address from the blacklists can be a major hassle. First you have to fix the spam problem on your system. Only then can you request removal, which can take several days. During this time you will still have trouble sending mail to almost everyone.
How does Outbound Filtering Help?
We have filters in place to catch the outgoing spam. We also have rate control restrictions so if you do get hacked you won’t be able to send out thousands of spam messages. And, your outgoing messages will appear to be sent from our IP addresses, not yours, ensuring that your IP reputation remains clean.
How do I set it up?
All you need to do is enable smart hosting on your mail server and enter our server information. We’ll provide this to you and assist with setup if needed.
How much does it cost?
Minimum charge is $9.95/month.
Price is based on the number of users on your domain. For customers adding Outbound Filtering to their existing inbound service, the price is half of cost of our standard inbound service.
For customers using Outbound Filtering as a stand-alone product, the price is the same as our inbound service.
If you are currently on a blacklist and need immediate on-boarding we will charge you a minimum of three month’s service up-front.
